The Seattle Budokan trains in the ancient art of Ninjutsu. This art comes directly from Soke Masaaki Hatsumi, Grandmaster of the Bujinkan Dojo, headquartered in Noda-city, Japan.
The Seattle Budokan trains continuously in basic body movement "taihenjutsu," falling and rolling "ukemi gata taihenjutsu," striking "daken taijutsu," unarmed protection "taijutsu," and weapons "nin gu." These principles come directly from Soke Hatsumi and the Tenchijin Ryaku No Maki.
The Seattle Budokan is a certified Bujinkan Dojo run by Dojo Board Members Sam Koppes, John Bibbee, Eric Timm and Matt Keiser.

Bujinkan - One Art, Many Names
Most martial arts go by one name. Ours goes by many - ninjutsu, taijutsu, ninpo... and plenty of others. No matter what you call it though, it's something you have to experience to understand.
At the Seattle Budokan, we train in this art, officially known as Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Created by Masaaki Hatsumi, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is an amalgamation of nine ancient Japanese martial arts, from both samurai and ninja traditions.
That doesn't mean you're going to learn how to disappear in a cloud of smoke or ride a horse into battle. But you will learn how to apply the same principles these ancient warriors used to make your body and mind more flexible, and to protect yourself and your loved ones through stand up and ground fighting skills, with and without weapons.
You'll learn how to use the power of your entire body against an attacker's weak points. You'll learn how deceptive use of distancing and angling can overcome speed. You'll learn how the same body movement can be applied empty handed or with any weapon. And you'll have a good time doing it.
Come in and experience it when you're ready, and see why this cutting edge art is so hard to pin down!

We mainly teach Ninpo Taijutsu or (commonly known as Ninjutsu). However, in the spirit of the traditional Budokan, or training hall, we are planning on hosting a number of different types of martial arts such as Karate, Aikido and Ju-jutsu. We are not a sparring center nor a mixed martial arts training center. Additionally, we plan on offering classes in Japanese culture such as customs, manners, cuisine and basic language skills.
Our dojo is located just minutes from downtown Bellevue. Conveniently located for most Microsoft, Amazon, Nintendo any many other eastside companies.
Ninpo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) class content
In the Ninpo Taijutsu class, you'll study:
Grappling, joint locks and manipulation - Jutaijutsu
Striking and pressure point attacks- Dakentaijutsu
Basic body movement - Taihenjutsu
Falling and rolling - Ukemi
Weapons - Nin gu
These principles come from training received directly from Soke Hatsumi and other senior instructors at the main Bujinkan Dojo in Japan. Instructors at the Seattle Budokan travel to Japan on a regular basis to learn the techniques, principles, and ideas that Soke Hatsumi is currently teaching.
Japanese Culture in the Dojo
At the Seattle Budokan we take a more modern, progressive approach to learning martial arts. Our facility has a TV screen located right on the dojo floor so that we may enhance our studying through videos or internet resources. We also have a small library of books that students may check out. Additionally, we teach Japanese customs and courtesies. It all starts right at the front door - from the simple act of taking off your shoes, to proper bowing, greeting and showing respect and etiquette to everyone in the dojo. We also dip into the thinking and patterns and behaviors particular to Japan (dos and don’ts).
Wouldn't you like to learn all of these things while learning a historical art?
